RANDY AND ASHLEY ARE COMING TO OREGON'S ALPENFEST – TO TEACH YOU (YES, YOU) TO POLKA

Randy and Ashley Thull, nationally renowned professional polka dancers from Wisconsin, will teach polka dancing at the 2014 edition of Oregon’s Alpenfest.

The Thulls have danced in competition for eight years and each has been dancing since childhood. They often appear on the “Mollie B Polka Party” on RFD-TV and have been featured on the show’s three Christmas specials. A video of them dancing competitively is on their website, www.thepolkadancers.com.

Their free 45-minute polka lessons will precede each of the four performances of Oregon’s Alpenfest at Wallowa Lake. Lessons will be at 6 p.m. Friday, noon and 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. Sunday.

“Every year, we receive repeated requests to teach the polka,” said Chuck Anderson, the festival’s alpenmeister. “We are pleased to say that Randy and Ashley are our answer to those requests.”

“They are among the best polka dancers in the world and are in high demand,” he added. “We thank the Oregon Community Foundation for a recent grant that makes their appearances possible.”

The Thulls live in Kewaskum, Wis., where Randy also plays in the Goodtime Dutchmen band. Among many honors, Ashley is a former Miss United Polka Association and serves as dance director for Polka America Corp. Their children, Ryan and Ashlyn, also polka.

“There is a West Coast polka belt that includes Oregon, but most polka enthusiasts from other areas don’t know about us,” Anderson said. “We hope that having Randy and Ashley here will help spread the word.”
